Between work, family, relationships, and all other obligations, it is so easy to lose ourselves. I am always saying “I’ll do it next year” or “I really want to learn (insert hobby/instrument/language here) in my spare time”. I am always looking at my New Years Resolution list in November and thinking “oh fuck, I forgot all about that, maybe next year?”
On the 31st December 2018 I turn 25. The big two–five. Quarter of a century old. I feel like it’s a milestone birthday even if my family and friends around me say it isn’t. In your 20s it is so easy to feel like you are not running at the right pace. You have friends who are married, having kids and seem to have their life sorted. You have friends still travelling the world without a second thought for settling down. You have friends who spend every weekend drunk and high and you’re just in the middle. Not fitting into any of these categories.
Turning 20 feels like it happened only five minutes ago but I have achieved so much in the last five years without realising. I graduated university, fell in love, got my heart broken, lived away from my parents, moved back in with a parent, worked a shit job, found a job I love, travelled to some beautiful cities, lost friends, gained friends and survived a near death experience, but I look back on it and think I could have done more, seen more, been more.
Earlier this year I started writing a list of 30 things I want to do, see and achieve before I am 30. Maybe it’s the organiser within me, but seeing a list of the things I want to do and being able to check them off as I complete them gets me all kinds of excited.
This is a blog for me, a way to remember how much I achieved in my late 20s. But if you are reading this then help a girl out and hook me up with something that helps me complete one of the below.
- Visit America
- Own my own home
- Earn at least another 5k a year
- Be under 13 stone
- Clear my credit card debt
- Learn a new skill
- Go to an ice bar
- Travel abroad by myself
- Travel first class
- Visit 3 European countries – 1 | 2 | 3
- Dine out alone
- Volunteer
- Learn the basics of a new language
- Learn how to change a tyre
- See a West End Musical
- Appear as an extra in a TV show/film
- Give blood
- Go hiking
- Write a book
- Take a cooking class
- See a movie alone
- Pay a strangers bill
- Go to a cat cafe
- Complete Couch to 5k
- Read 100 new books
- Host Christmas Day/Dinner
- Attend another murder mystery
- Keeper for the day
- Go to a boozy brunch
- Rogue road trip
I have edited this list many times and finally settled on the above 30.
There will be things I do that are bucket list worthy but aren’t on here, and there may things on here that I don’t end up achieving but that will be okay. I’m going to give it a go, bring on the next 5 years.
